LATO Educational Hikes

Exploring and learning along local oak woodland trails

Providing guided educational hikes for K-6th grade classes at each of our public partner schools is a big part of what we do. Thematic hikes are designed to correlate with Next Generation Science Standards for each class. The LATO Curriculum Resources page provides an overview of these study themes.

Hikes take place on the designated LATO nature trail for each school and are guided by LATO docents with help from Oak Ambassadors, trained junior nature guides.

We occasionally present guided hikes for community groups, especially youth groups. These are limited to what our resources allow and there is a suggested donation for each hike.

The Santa Margarita Ranch LATO Trail* is the one we use the most for community hikes. It is an easy  hike over mostly level terrain and includes interpretive stations. Please use the message form below to let us know of your hike interests and to request information.

*On private property of the Santa Margarita Ranch; access is restricted to LATO guided educational hikes.
