Ocean View Elementary School LATO Highlights

A 2016 field trip for Ocean View Elementary School (OVES) 4th graders to the Santa Margarita Ranch LATO Trail served as the kickoff for the establishment of our second LATO public school base. The first class of OVES Oak Ambassadors (OAs) graduated in the spring of 2017. It was a magical first OA class — bursting with enthusiasm and fully focused on the promise of kids teaching kids about nature at the Pismo Preserve, now their own associated nature trail. We love this school and are grateful for a wonderful partnership.

    Pismo Preserve

The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County‘s Pismo Preserve is the place where OVES Oak Ambassadors guide educational hikes for school classes and, occasionally, for community groups. During the pandemic, OVES students made use of restricted time (no class hikes!) to create a field guide to the birds of the Pismo Preserve. We love exploring the coast live oak and sage scrub lands at the preserve. There is always something new to discover!
