Identification Pointers

A wild boar is also commonly referred to as a wild hog, a razorback, or a feral pig. This animal is compact with a large head and relatively short legs. The fur of a wild boar consists of stiff bristles and finer fur. The coat color can be either black and gray, spotted, or black and tan. Both males and females have tusks as part of their upper set of teeth, but only the male tusks curve upward.

Behavior Tips

Wild boars are omnivores that eat almost anything they come across such as grass, nuts, berries, carrion, roots, tubers, refuse, insects, and small reptiles.  This animal is crepuscular and is also nocturnal. Male boars are usually solitary outside of the breeding seasons, but females and their offspring tend to live in groups called sounders. These groups can contain anywhere between 20 to 50 boars, with 2 to 3 sows (female adults), one of which is the dominant female of the group.
